The correct name change for the WASHINGTON REDSKINS

images.jpeg

It is finally happening the Washington Redskins are officially no longer going to be known as the Washington Redskins. This seems like a long awaited move from the franchise that felt inevitable. It seems almost yearly for the past decade that the topic comes up when sports comes to its “dead” period after the NBA draft.

My personal opinion on the issue is… good. Like honestly Im surprised this didn’t happen when I was a kid in the early 2000s, or even earlier in the 90s. If your mascot is drawing yearly debate on whether or not it is or is not racist, you should probably change it. Especially when your mascot is a disenfranchised group in American history. And listen I have heard both sides of the debate of this Native American guy says its actually honoring them, and this group of Native American people say its racist. The easy solve to this debate is just change the name.

Another popular argument I have heard on this one is “oh well if they named a team the Caucasians I wouldn’t care” or the Guidos, etc. You get it. My response to that would be, “Who cares?” Move on with your life. Theres more things to be upset about.

So the name IS and SHOULD be changed. Now there are some names that are being thrown around to replace “Redskins” here they are.

Washington Red Wolves

Now here is the one that has gained the most traction with fans, players, and former players. And its the one that I like the most out of the names being thrown around (not the name they should pick).

Washington Warriors

Now here is the one I think they are going take because they are cowards. Warriors has already been done (See Golden State) and its just a generic name. I feel like every Pop Warner league has a Warriors. And they’re probably the red and black team with that one fast kid thats whole team that they just run pitch right and pitch left with. For an NFL team though I feel like this is just a bland, boring, bullshit move if this is what they choose.

Washington Red Tails

This one I can get behind mostly. It does still have “Red” in the title, it is paying tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen from WW2, and its pretty original. The only reason I don’t like it is the Tuskegee Airmen and Tuskegee in general is in Alabama. So to me this name maybe makes sense for an Alabama team, but other then just paying tribute to black pilots because its 2020 Im not sure what the correlation to the city of Washington DC.

Now finally the reason you are here. The only correct choice for the name change. Anything else would be a tragedy really. This is an opportunity of a lifetime to make everyone happy.

You want to correct the sins of the past? Give the people what they want. Thats right the team that brought on a bunch of no name replacement players and made the playoffs. They already have a jersey to retire, #16. Shane “Footsteps” Falco from Ohio State. Hes a god damn legend and looks like Keanu Reaves.

In all seriousness though. Why has this not gained any sort of traction? Who would not be fucking psyched to see this? Make the people happy Dan Snyder.
